New York: Saturday (Part 2)

Saturday was crazy. We were all over the city. We started by heading down to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Then we went out to Brooklyn to have lunch with friends. Then the whole group walked around SoHo and NoHo and Canal St. area and Little Italy and Chinatown. We had dinner at a cool little restaurant called "Room Service" and then went way back up town for drinks and food at the bride and groom's house. We covered a ton of ground and saw a lot of cool stuff. It was a good day and the weather was awesome.

Looking back at NYC from Liberty Island.
Ellis Island was pretty cool. I bet you could spend a ton of time there
but we were in a bit of a rush after spending a lot of time on Liberty
Island. This is the Registry Room. Up to 5,000 people a day came
through here and would be called up to a podium at the front to answer
questions they answered on the manifest before they came here and other
questions about their plans in the US. Around 12 million people came
through Ellis Island while it was open. It was very interesting to hear
about the process they would have to go through. One example is the
"6 second test" which was the brief look over by a doctor while they were
waiting in line to get into the Registry Room. The doctors
were trained to look for 50-60 diseases that were problems at the time.

It was fun walking around the city. One thing we love about the East
Coast is all the history and character in the cities and buildings.

Here we are going through one of the street markets. Both of us
picked up something from one of the vendors. I got a cool shirt
from a guy who uses photographs taken by his dad back in the
70s/80s in the NY subway. Some of his pics are here

Never really knew what you would find.
This place had all sorts of spices and teas.
Here's some selection in Chinatown.

I forgot that after dinner we went down to Times Square.
