Month 5

Evangeline turned 5 months on Monday 12/17. She is very active and just soaking up all her surroundings. She is almost rolling over on her own...we are still working on that. She loves to blow rasberries or spit. She thinks it is so funny and of course Dad doesn't like it at all, but Grandma thinks it is very funny especially when she tries to do it with rice cereal in her mouth. Yes, we are eating rice cereal now. We have been doing that for almost 2 weeks now, just at night and she really seems to like it.

Here I am eating rice cereal...yummy!

Aren't I the cutest snow bunny?

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Month 4 and Checkups

Pediatrician checkup went well. She is doing all the things she needs to be doing. She is 12lbs 13oz and 24" about the 45th percentile. She got all those shots. She seemed a little more fussy and sore, but she did great.

MCAD checkup went well. She is allowed to go 7 hours now without eating and she is taking a little more carnitine at each time. I really like our doctor...it is worth the drive to Ft. Worth. She is doing really great.

Both doctors said she could start rice cereal anytime, but I don't think she is ready at all. We are going to wait on that.

She laughed out loud for the first time on her 4 month b-day. James was bathing her and as he was drying her off she laughed. She has also laughed for grandma knorr. She however has not laughed for mom. Figures...I better get used to it.

My church dress

So I do this a lot now...just stick my tongue out. It helps me gauge the wind.

Dad and I are ready to watch the Horns game!

Halloween

Halloween was fun. We went over to Aunt Chris and Uncle Johnny's house for dinner. I met the beautiful Amanda (Aunt Chris's best friend) for the first time. I really like her. We got to pass out candy to the cute kids in the neighborhood. I dressed like a 'punkin.'

Family on Halloween
Just call me 'Punkin Buns.' Aunt Heather got me these cute Halloween PJs...they are so cozy.

Dedication Service

I don't know how much there is to add to the video. We had the opportunity to participate in a dedication service at the church and felt it was important to commit to raising Evey with the love of God, and committing to being a good example for her of walking with the Lord. We're sorry it couldn't have been scheduled where everyone could make it, but we hope you enjoy the video and feel like you were there. We know you would have been if you could. One of the most overwhelming things about the experience was seeing and knowing how much family and friend support Evey will have growing up. We are truly blessed.

3 Months

Evangeline is doing really well. We started our new schedule this week. She is at Mary's from 8 to 3, while I am working. We are still trying to get in some sort of routine, but I imagine that will take a little bit and I am trying not to freak out. (I did a little last night). Her legs are really strong, but we are still working on tummy time...arm strength. She really doesn't like it...I think it is cause she can't see what is going on. She doesn't want to miss anything. Here are some pictures from the last month.

I have really been enjoying watching the UT football games
Tummy time...I only appear to like itLook I am getting long eyelashes like my Aunt Chris
Just a few more minutes of sleep, please

I was totally facinated with my tongue this morning
Look at this punkin' in the pumpkin patch

Snoop

I just went through a little growth spurt...you know eating every 2 hours and not taking naps. But now I am a little bigger and getting more sleep. Have you heard that song by Snoop Dog called Drop it like it is hot? Ok, so I can make that noise Sss-nn-oooo-uu-p. Mom and Dad think it is so funny. You think if I showed Mr. Snoop Dog these shades that he would hire me?

I am ready to go walking with mom

2 Months Already??

I had my 2 month checkup and shots this week. I am 9lbs 15oz - 22in...25% in each category. The shots were not that much fun, but I didn't have a reaction or anything so no big deal. I am really starting to enjoy tummy time, my neck gets stronger every day. I am also getting better at this schedule thing. I do like the cloth diapers if mom will just commit to it. I have started to talk to mom and dad, but I am not sure they understand me...I do have a few stories to tell. Here are some pictures of me over the last couple of weeks.

Here I am enjoying some sunbathing by the pool. It's nice out here.

Definitely one of my cuter outfits.

Mommy makes funny jokes about Daddy and we laugh together.

What you lookin' at?

Here's my first time in the Bumpo seat.
This thing is supposed to help me build neck strength.

I'm not sure I like this thing just yet.

I guess it's not so bad.

Mommy and Daddy sure are making a big deal of this.
Even a video for everyone to see??

I'm starting to enjoy this tummy time. I get to work on my upper body strength and pushing up and before you know it I'll be mobile. Hope you're ready Mom and Dad!

Day Care

Well Monday was a long day, but Evey did awesome. She was off to day care at 8am with Daddy. Mommy picked her up at noon. She is going to Mary's Little Lambs, located here in Frisco only about 10 minutes from the house. It is a home day care. They specialize in little ones so she is not around any other children older than 18 months, which is good. They tell me she is very good and sweet, of course I know this already. Then, I started bible study at Irving Bible Church so Evey went to the kids klub there. The ladies were very nice. Once again she did great, it was mommy that was nervous and worried.

Mondays will be long days for both us. I think I am doing pretty good with her going to day care. I don't like it but she seems to do fine. We are just trying to get into some kind of routine/schedule.

What she is up to at home: She is smiling a lot lately...so precious. She rolled over Sunday morning from her tummy to her back. I put her down for tummy time, looked back over she was on her side then looked back again and she was on her back...happy as can be. Bath time is probably her favorite time of the day, especially when mommy AND daddy bath her. Of course, grandma bath time runs a close second.

This is me getting ready for church. I am a happy little girl.

MCAD Deficiency

In January of 2007, Texas began the expanded newborn screening tests. Evangeline’s test came back abnormal so we went to see a geneticist for further testing…same results. She was diagnosed with MCAD Deficiency (medium-chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase deficiency).

Friday 8/24 we met with a geneticist who specializes in metabolic disorders at Cooks Children’s in Ft. Worth, she also has a nutritionist on staff that met with us. Not sure what I was expecting from this meeting, but I was impressed. They presented us with binder of information and resources and there was an agenda for the meeting.

MCAD is an autosomal recessive disorder of beta-oxidation of fatty acids, which occurs in approximately 1 in 20,000 live births. This is genetic…James and I are both carriers for the recessive gene…so she had a 25% chance of getting both recessive genes. One of each of our parents passed us the recessive gene and so on and so forth.

Basically, it is very difficult for her to processes medium chain fats into energy. To help her with this, she will supplement her diet the rest of her life with L-Carnitine. She will basically have a normal life and shouldn’t have to avoid any activities or foods or anything. She just will overall need to eat a little healthier diet and she will need to make sure she doesn’t go very long without food. When your body goes without food for a certain number of hours, it shifts mode into using stored energy (fats) for energy. Since she has difficulty converting this type of stored energy into glucose, her body would be in a situation where her brain doesn’t have enough to keep functioning.

First Road Trips

We took our first couple of road trips with Evangeline here recently. One of them was for GrandBob's and Uncle Bradley's birthday down in the Galveston, the other was to visit family in Midland. It was the first time for many of the family members to see the new baby, so it was a good time for everyone.

Here's Evey sleeping on Aunt Lauren

GrandBob's beard and funny voices sure do get my attention.

Here's my other Aunt Heather, I slept in her arms for a long time.

GrandBob and his birthday cake.

Evangeline even went on her first boat ride. It was bright out so Mommy let me borrow her sun glasses. I think they are a little big for me, but that is the style I hear.

Here we are on the boat with my Great Aunt Mary and Great Uncle Joe. I'm kind of hidden back there in Mom's arms. This was right before GrandBob hit the turbos and we went flying through Galveston Bay. It was fun, but I think Mom was nervous.

Here I am with my Great Papa Knorr. He did so good holding me even though my Grandpa Knorr is too scared. We had fun.

Here's my Great Aunt Sybil holding me.

4 Generations in one pic. Great Grandma on down to little Evangeline.
And all of us supporting the Longhorns.

I made some changes to the commenting...so it should be easier to leave a comment now on blog posts. At first I had settings selected as if it was open to the world...but since we figured out the invite only thing the protection on the commenting is unnecessary.

Have Fun!

Post from Mom

Evey is such a blessing. She has a really good temperament and is very patient with me while I get things figured out. She sleeps really well at night usually 5 and 4 hours at a time so I am pretty rested. She like going for rides in the car and does really well while I run errands.

We have been trying to get on a little bit of a schedule...eating every 3 hours, play time and then sleep time. It is going pretty well for the most part...might go better if I was a little stricter. For play time, she loves story time and singing songs (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Jesus loves me and He's got the whole world in His hands).

Here are some of the latest pictures...

So I know that you are not supposed to do this but
we were both so tired after church and lunch that we napped together.
It was so wonderful...I think I might have enjoyed it more than she did.

Evey loves right after bath when she is warm and wrapped
in a towel. She is always so cute that I have to take pictures.
Here are her 1 month pictures...she says,
"Daddy, your whiskers tickle my face!"

This is the face she makes when we steal kisses from her.
She is so darn cute I can't stand it!

She is trying on her UT cap to see if it fits yet...
pretty close...she'll be ready for football season.
PS..the blanket I have had since I was born...pretty cool

Faces of Evey

So, our little miss Evey is already ONE MONTH old! I can't believe it. I guess this is what "they" mean when "they" say it goes fast. "They" are pretty smart sometimes. I thought a good summary of the last month would be to review some of the faces Evey makes for us. Some of them make Char laugh so much that she has to try to stop laughing so she doesn't hurt her stomach which is still healing from the cesarean surgery. So what I thought I would do is list some possible thoughts going through her mind or captions for each of the faces. Hope you enjoy.

#1a - Man that heater feels good.
#1b - Does this hat make me look like a gangsta?

#2 - Daddy, was that me or you?
